The Salt and the Silence — Winslow Homer
The Salt and the Silence — Winslow Homer

Winslow Homer spent his late career on the rocks of Prout's Neck, Maine, painting the Atlantic without sentiment: the working sea, its fishermen, its total indifference to human plans. The Salt and the Silence carries that same weathered quiet, water, light, and the kind of stillness that only settles in after a storm has passed. Homer painted the people who worked the water like colleagues, not scenery: respected, never romanticized.
